Here’s a simple and delicious Paneer Masala Recipe that you can try at home:

Ingredients:

  • Paneer (cottage cheese) – 250g, cut into cubes

  • Onion – 1 large, finely chopped

  • Tomatoes – 2 large, pureed

  • Ginger-Garlic Paste – 1 tablespoon

  • Green Chili – 1, slit (optional)

  • Cumin Seeds – 1/2 teaspoon

  • Turmeric Powder – 1/2 teaspoon

  • Red Chili Powder – 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)

  • Coriander Powder – 1 teaspoon

  • Garam Masala – 1 teaspoon

  • Kasuri Methi (dried fenugreek leaves) – 1/2 teaspoon (optional)

  • Fresh Cream – 2 tablespoons (optional for richness)

  • Cilantro – a handful, chopped (for garnish)

  • Oil or Ghee – 2 tablespoons

  • Salt – to taste

  • Water – 1/2 cup (adjust for gravy consistency)

Instructions:

  1. Heat Oil in a Pan: In a pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil or ghee over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

  2. Sauté Onions and Green Chilies: Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown. Add the slit green chili (if using) and ginger-garlic paste, and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. Cook the Tomatoes: Add the pureed tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Stir and cook until the oil starts separating from the masala (spice mix), about 5-7 minutes.

  4. Add Water & Simmer: Add 1/2 cup of water to the pan and let the mixture simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavors to blend together. Adjust water for your preferred gravy consistency.

  5. Add Paneer: Add the cubed paneer to the gravy and stir gently to coat the paneer with the masala. Let it cook for 5 minutes on low heat, so the paneer absorbs the flavors.

  6. Finish the Dish: Add garam masala, kasuri methi (optional), and fresh cream (optional for a rich texture). Stir well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

  7. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve hot with roti, naan, or rice.

Enjoy your homemade Paneer Masala!
